What Kindle Is The Best? Which Is Right For You?
Have you considered getting a Kindle e-reader but are bogged down by which is the best choice?
Every reader has different wants and demands for a Kindle.
This article will explore the flagship Kindle e-readers, their features, price, and some accessories we highly recommend.
With the following information, we hope you can find the Kindle that suits your needs. We will not be discussing tablets due to the eye strain that is associated with them.
We will only discuss dedicated Kindle e-readers.
Why Buying a Kindle is a Great Idea
Any Kindle we will discuss is a tool to help make your reading life a little easier.
Kindles are very portable and handy while you are out and about. They have e-ink technology that is easy on the eyes and is as close to reading a physical book as possible.
There is a Kindle for every type of reader. Not to mention, it is like carrying your home library on a compact device.
Anyone of any age can use a Kindle device. The interface on Kindles is very user-friendly and easy to use.
So, if you have been worried that it may be too technologically advanced, have no fear!
The steps for setting up a new Kindle device are very simple. Amazon even sets it up for you if it is a new Kindle, and they tie it to your Amazon library.
All that needs to be done is buy the Kindle books, download them, and you are set to read.
So let us take a look at some of the fine Kindle devices that Amazon has to offer.
For Beginners or on a Budget
The 2023 model of the Kindle Paperwhite is a perfect starting e-reader. It comes in two different storage sizes.
There are the 8 GB and the 16 GB Kindle Paperwhite’s. The 8 GB runs at $139.99, and the 16 GB runs at $149.99.
Paperwhite Kindles are solid e-readers, lightweight, and easy to navigate.
Paperwhite Features
- Both the 8 and 16 GB 2023 Paperwhite Kindles have a nicely sized 6.8” display screen and adjustable warm lighting. It is lightweight, with a plastic housing, but durable.
- The screen is easier on the eyes than a tablet, thanks to e-ink technology that creates a display with real paper-like qualities.
- The Paperwhite boasts a wonderful 300 pixels per inch.
- The 2023 model is also 10% brighter and charges via USB-C.
- With the USB-C charging port, it creates lightning-speed charge times. On average, the battery life can last up to 10 weeks but will vary depending on how much it is used.
- The Paperwhite is also water-resistant, with an IPX8 rating. This means it can fall into freshwater 2 meters deep and not be damaged for up to an hour. For saltwater, it is less than 0.25 meters and can only stay undamaged for about three minutes.
- One last feature implemented on the 2023 Paperwhite choosing between a white lighting background and an amber-lit background.
- There is also an advanced Paperwhite called the Signature with a beefed-up storage capacity of 32 GB, wireless charging capability, increased battery life, and faster page turns. Its cost is $189.99, making it an elite Paperwhite experience.
- The Paperwhite houses 17 LED lights.
What Types of Readers the Paperwhite Suits Perfectly and Accessories
The 2023 Kindle Paperwhite is perfect for anyone looking to purchase an e-reader.
I suggest a Paperwhite to readers who have never used an e-reader. Its easy-to-use interface makes it ideal for a beginner.
However, Paperwhite has come a long way and would be a perfect fit for many readers. They also make amazing gifts.
Some must-have accessories would include a matte-finished screen protector. This way, it doesn’t hinder e-ink technology.
Also, a fine case is always a nice addition. There are many with kickstands and color schemes that have a strap for holding it with one hand more easily.
A Kindle With a Little More Pizzazz
The 2023 Kindle Oasis is a step up from the Paperwhite.
It is a bit more expensive, coming in 8 GB and 32 GB.
- The 8 GB Oasis costs $249.99, and the 32 GB Oasis costs $279.99.
- Available in two colors: graphite and champagne gold.
- The Oasis is also 300 pixels per inch.
- It does have a larger 7” display.
- The Oasis boasts several more lighting modes, and brightness can also be adjusted.
- You can also set your Oasis to adjust the screen brightness to your environment automatically, or it can be scheduled to get dimmer as your bedtime draws close.
- Water Resistant: The Oasis also has an IPX8 rating and can resist water for the same amount of time mentioned on the Paperwhite.
- The Oasis is a little more ergonomic for the hands, with a raised curve on the back.
- It also has page-turning buttons, which is great for readers who hate screen fingerprints! It also has an unbelievable and durable metal housing.
- The Oasis houses 25 LED lights for a wider light customization experience.
- Complete with an automatic rotating page orientation.
Is The Kindle Oasis Worth the Extra Cost?
The answer to this question could be yes or no, depending on the type of reader.
If you plan to use your e-reader constantly, it is most definitely worth the extra cost for the luxury the Oasis has.
Although the 2023 Oasis doesn’t have a USB-C charging port, it still charges very quickly and holds the charge for up to weeks, depending on how much reading occurs.
I own this Kindle and couldn’t imagine reverting to a Paperwhite.
So if you want a more well-rounded e-reader experience, a little luxury, and a great in-hand feel, plus all of the features that the Paperwhite lacks, this is the Kindle for you!
Kindle Oasis Must-Have Accessories
Regarding accessories, even though the Oasis is robust, I suggest a nice case and matte screen protector.
Many of the cases available have kickstands and hand straps for easier holding.
Kindle Scribe and Who it is Geared Towards
The Kindle Scribe is a much larger Kindle with a whopping 10.2” display. It also has 300 pixels per inch.
The cost is lofty at $264.99 with a 16 GB option, $304.99 for a 32 GB option, or $329.99 for a 64 GB option.
Kindle Scribe is perfect for students or business people looking for a nice tablet to take notes on, underline and make notes in books, or create separate notebook files.
It comes with a basic pen, but a premium pen is available. Kindle Scribe has all of the other features mentioned with Paperwhite and Oasis.
However, if you like taking notes, drawing, or keeping notes for books in a separate e-folder, this Kindle is right up your alley!
Being the newest Kindle at the moment, there aren’t very many customization options. However, it has a nice case and a matte-finish screen protector.
Final Thoughts on Kindle Devices
All in all, each Kindle device and the accessories I have mentioned are of high quality.
All Kindles, from Paperwhite to Oasis and, finally, Scribe, are fantastic e-readers you cannot go wrong with.
The question that begs answering about shopping for a Kindle is this:
- First, what will you be using your e-reader for predominantly?
- Second, what is your budget? Third, which kindle seems to suit your needs and wants best?
- Fourth, how much are you going to be using the Kindle?
- Lastly, which device is going to make you the happiest while reading?
Believe it or not, these questions and the information above will hopefully help you dive into the world of a new e-reader!
Physical books are fantastic, but you cannot beat carrying around a whole library in a small tablet.
Kindles are so helpful. Whether it be to reduce your physical book collection, have a lighter method of reading that is easy and not cumbersome on the go, try something new, or even use it in between or while reading physical books at the same time.
The mentioned Kindle devices can also aid in failing eyesight as the font size can be adjusted to a reader’s needs and wants.
Overall, I hope this tech talk has opened your mind to a Kindle and what it could do to improve your reading life.
Hopefully, the previously mentioned information will help you begin your journey with a Kindle device today!
